Rick Oliver and Pieter Booth met in the parking area N. of the Silver Cloud at 4:00--and yes, we both nabbed a spot!  Entry at almost high tide (high was 11.7 feet at 5:30) into 2.5 foot surf.  After an exhausting swim, we descended into about 35 fsw 30 yds S of the pier and headed on an intercept course of NW.  We quickly encountered small congregations of crab and after about 20 min. of bottom time we had each nabbed 4 dungeness keepers.  There were definitely slimmer pickings than at the opening of the season, but not bad at all.  In particular, I saw hardly any decent size red rock crab.  We found the greatest number along the edge of the pier where they were feasting on mussels.  Interestingly, almost all of these were female and almost to a fault they did not try to avoid capture.  Could it be that they were used to being picked up by air-blowing monsters who routinely turn them over and let them go?  Coincidence?  Maybe another experiment for Brian and me to work on.  On the way back I had the pleasure of watching a free-swimming hooded nudibranch in about 15 fsw.  No camera with me of course.
