|  | Shrimp gear & methods I've been asked 'what's the best device to use for catching shrimp'.
My smart-ass response is that I'm still trying new methods and tools.
The main gear is your flashlight and goodie bag.
Variations are: the goodie bag with cloth at the opening, a funnel similar to one of those saftey cones with a bag attached.
And a brave few get certified for trimix and drop down to 180 feet and get their limit when the herd is there.
I've use the first two with some success. My story is 'use a flashlight to blind them so they jump backwards into the open goodie bag'. This works a third to half the time. And on a good night I've gotten 25-30 of the 80 spot shrimp. | |

| | I use a pipe that just barely larger than the outside of my flashlight. I put a one way valve in it and a mesh net on the back side. The pipe is usually a thick drink bottle that I've cut both ends out of. The one way value is usually the top end of a 2 liter soda bottle that I've sectioned to allow the shrimp to move in but not back out. And the mesh for the net, I pick up at the local fabric store and sew into the right size.
I blind the shrimp with my flashligh, set the pipe down behind the shrimp and usher the shrimp into the pipe and through the valve with my flashlight.
And sometimes it works. | |

| | I usually hop in the car and head down to Safeway where I can always get my limit in a very short time. I usually catch them in a plastic bag. After I have as many as I want I seal the top and take them home. mmm mmm good!
