Boat Use Policy
- Boats may be checked-out by Sea Horse Dive Club members ONLY.
- To use a club boat, the dive you are doing must be open to the general Sea Horse Club membership (if there is open space on the boat or boats) and it must be published on the Sea Horse Website Calendar.
- The boat usage fee is $35 per boat per day. In addition to the usage fee there is a $10 per diver per day surcharge for any divers using the boat who are not Sea Horse Dive Club members. The club member who checks out the boat is responsible for collecting the money and sending it to the club Treasurer. This usage fee will be placed in the Capital Improvement Fund and used as needed for general maintenance, repair, and future replacement of club equipment.
- All people (divers and passengers) on the club boat who are not Sea Horse Dive Club members, must sign a waiver (releasing the club of liability in the event of an accident) prior to boarding the boat.
- The boat should be returned in the same or better condition than when they were borrowed. This would include, but is not limited to: flushing the engine, washing down the boat, replacing fuel and oil used, and returning the boat to the boatkeeper. In many cases, the boatkeeper will have facilities for you to clean the boat. Ask the boatkeeper where the necessary cleaning supplies are stored. Also, it is always a good idea to take an inventory of what is on the boat prior to borrowing it, and pointing out any missing or broken items.
- You should call the boat caretaker and make an appointment prior to picking up the boat.
Useful Information
- The trailer lights on all club boats are a standard "flat four" connector. Starting with the odd pin, the sequence is: ground, running lights, left turn, right turn.
- The trailer hitch uses a standard 2-inch ball.
- Check the running lights, brake lights, and turn signals to make sure they work before leaving the boatkeeper's house.
- Check to make sure safety equipment is on the boat (e.g. live preservers, first-aid kit, oxygen kit, etc.)
- It is always a good idea to check the wheel bearings before you leave and whenever you stop. They should be warm, but not hot to the touch.
- Always disconnect the lights BEFORE backing the trailer into the water.
- Remove the safety chain and tie down straps BEFORE backing the trailer into the water. DO NOT remove the winch hook until the boat is in the water.
- Make sure the bilge plugs are in-place BEFORE backing the trailer into the water.
