Larry McLean, Tech Instructor, Truk Lagoon Dive Guide and Author


To start of the new year, at a new location, the club will be providing a complimentary sampling of a several of the Diamond Knot’s finest pizzas to dive club members, families and their guests.


Larry is a NAUI, PADI and TDI Technical Instructor. He has worked in the Scuba Industry all over the world since 1991. His resume includes running dive operations for Saudi ARAMCO, managing Richard Branson’s Virgin Oceanic and working for The S. S. Thorfinn live-aboard in Truk Lagoon.


While living and working in Truk in the 1990s Larry was involved in significant efforts to preserve and document the wrecks of Truk Lagoon. His accomplishments include:

              Early conservation efforts protecting the wrecks and banning rebar anchor dragging.

              On February 17th, 1994; Placed commemorative monuments on the Aikoku Maru and Fujikawa Maru.

              While with the S.S. Thorfinn Publishing “The 26 Principle Shipwrecks of Truk Lagoon”. A set of illustrations that have become iconic for divers planning dives in Truk Lagoon.


Larry is currently working on and updated dive guide inclusive of 45 wrecks in Truk. This presentation will showcase previews of illustrations from his upcoming book.


Presentation will cover:

              Why Truk is a must dive destination for wreck divers

              Brief history of Truk and the wrecks

              How to plan your trip

              Live-aboard and shore based diving
