Membership Renewal Time Is Here

posted Feb 18, 2016, 7:45 PM by Ed Gullekson
Hi all you returning and soon to be new Sea Horse Dive Club Members.  With the New Year comes the membership renewal. You can find the renewal forms (2 forms, one that gathers information and one that is a liability waiver form) on our Membership Information page at
https://sites.google.com/a/seahorsediveclub.com/home/membership-information .

New this year is that you will get a free club sticker just for joining or renewing membership.

Interest è  We’re working on setting up specialty classes to be taught by some of our esteemed members.  These classes might include Photography, Videography, Finessing your Buoyancy, Advanced Dry Suit, Free Water Ascents/Descents, etc.

Interest è  We’re working on setting up a Diving Passport Program (for lack of a better name).  This program will encourage you to go visit some of the wonderful and exciting local dive sites and to win prizes and provide you with an opportunity to tell us about what you found, when you’ve visited some number of them.

Interest è  We’re in the very early stages of creating a dive park advisory board to help direct the Mukilteo Parks & Recreation Department two planned dive parks for the new Mukilteo Water Front Property.

MEMBER BENEFITS:  The club organizes many social events and dive outings during the year.  But perhaps the biggest benefit is meeting and making friends with other divers.  Diving is a social sport and if you're a Sea Horse Dive Club member you can always find somebody who'll go diving with you regardless of your level of experience.  Just post your diving related wants and desires on the club Facebook page and someone will get back to you.  Several of our members head up local dives, mid-week dives and weekend dives to various shore locations in the area.

The winter time indoor club meetings are usually held at Roundtable Pizza, either in Issaquah or Overlake.  We typically meet around 5:00pm (give or take a half hour) and carpool to the destination.  A no-host bar/meal typically starts about 6:00pm, so we can have some time to enjoy the refreshments and idle chatter before the meeting starts and then the presentation typically starts about 7:00pm and goes to somewhere between 8:00pm and 9:00pm (when they kick us out).

The summer time club meeting are usually held at one of the local beaches and include some kind of activity that includes diving.  The wine dive and the beer dive are usually well attended.  For these dives, we’ll go out and seed a shallow area (less than 30 feet) with wine bottles or beer bottles and then practice our Search & Rescue skills while we go out and find them.

We also dives in support of

·         local charities (Dive Around the Clock: https://vimeo.com/101143956 )

·         cold water destinations (Deception Pass, San Juan’s, Port Hardy, and Reid Harbor:   https://vimeo.com/132821491 )

·         exotic PNW locations (Wine and Dive the Titan I Missile Silo: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WS45uvOvgic )

·         fresh water dives (PBM Mariner:

You can send the forms through in-plant mail (the address is on the form) or you can come to our next any of the monthly indoor meetings on the 4th Thursday of each month.  For February the Indoor Meeting will be by Alex Chiu, who is recently returned from diving the Galapagos Islands.  Bring your filled out forms and dues (check or cash) to the meeting.
