.November 21, Indoor Meeting. No-host dinner at 6, program at 7 PM. Location is WOODINVILLE LIBRARY, 17105 Avondale Rd NE, Woodinville, WA 98072 Program this month is - British Columbia has some of the best cold-water diving in the world. Clear water, big animals and tiny animals, great for wide-angle and macro photography. So where do you go? Port Hardy and God's Pocket have name recognition, and are a long ways away. Closer is Horseshoe Bay and the wrecks at Nanaimo. A little further is Powell River. How about we pick that sweet spot in between - Hornby Island. Not much on the way of rivers to silt up the visibility, only an hour's drive north of Nanaimo to the ferry, Lots of different kinds of underwater terrain from boulders and flats to huge walls. Let's go there. The REEF organization (reef.org) teams up with SeaDoc Society to do fish/invertebrate surveys each year. The last couple years were in the San Juan Islands. For 2019 they selected Hornby Island on the east side of Vancouver Island. Ed Gullekson was one of the REEF surveyors selected to make this trip and to contribute to expert data input into the REEF database. Come see a video and hear about what diving this spectacular area is about.
